Frequently asked questions

Your questions answered.
What is Spamwise?
Spamwise is an OpenAI powered application that analyzes your incoming emails for threats as they arrive in your inbox. Emails that are detected as a threat are moved to your normal mailbox junk/spam folder.
What threats can Spamwise protect me from?
Spamwise detects phishing, spam, scams, junk, impersonation, spoofing, misdirection, and other malicious intent in emails that find their way into your inbox.
What happens if a legitimate email is moved to junk?
You simply move the email back into your inbox and Spamwise will automatically recognize that you want the sender allowed.
Do you store my emails?
No. Contents of emails are analyzed by Spamwise but they are never stored. Spamwise does however store a copy of the sender's email address and subject line for inbox authorization, and for displaying threat results.
Can I revoke access to my mailbox?
Yes, anytime. You are in full control and revoke access in your mailbox provider, even without logging into Spamwise.
What happens if I delete my account?
If you delete your account, all access is revoked automatically and all associated data on Spamwise is immediately and permanently deleted. We do not schedule deletions or keep any of your data after account deletion -- it is purged immediately.
How does Spamwise work?
Once you add your mailbox to Spamwise, it is connected using IMAP over TLS or SSL. Then, when new incoming emails arrive, specific components of each email are retrieved, and GPT-4o is used to determine if any threats are present. Depending on the outcome, the emails are either moved into your junk folder or kept in your inbox.
Why do you need read & write access to my inbox?
Unfortunately Microsoft and Google do not provide read only access with the ability to move emails into your junk/spam folder. Read & write permission is necessary to be able to perform a move operation.
Does you sell data with third parties?
No. Spamwise is a paid service. Your information is private and will never be for sale. Even if you use the free version with an OpenAI API key.
What mailbox providers are supported?
Microsoft Outlook, Google Gmail, and any IMAP provider with IDLE support is currently supported.
Can I create and manage my own mailbox rules?
Yes, you can create your own mailbox rules that allow you to block specific senders, domains, or emails containing specific subject contents.
